Bowl of Stories IV

Students & Teachers Writing for Publication

Oregon Council of Teachers of English Students and Teachers as Writers 2006, Bowl of Stories IV One-sentence Story Contest--

Write along with your students and send in your best one-sentence stories and earn a free copy of the Bowl of Stories IV 2006 fine-paper broadside selection of the forty best entries from students and teachers. Teachers may go to the octe.org website and find the entire eighty-story Bowl of Stories III anthology of classroom examples.

Be sure to send a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with each entry so you can receive your copy of the winner's broadside, which will also be available at the Spring NCTE Conference in Portland during the first week in March--see octe.org for further conference details.

Email Steve Jones at srjones24407@exchangenet.net with questions and useful punctuation rules written in the form of the rule for commas, colons, semi-colons and dashes--all useful in one-sentence stories.

You are encouraged to use story examples from the OCTE website for prompts, have students write for five or ten minutes on several different days, ask them to pick their favorites, revise them to one-sentence format, give them a title and send them to the address below prior to the postmark deadline of February 1, 2006:
